Hays is partnering with a rapidly growing private sector business, who operates on a national level, to find their next People & Culture Manager based in Hobart. With a current workforce of 200 employees, this organisation is committed to fostering a positive and inclusive culture, aligning with its growth initiatives.

Your new role

As People & Culture Manager, you will hold the ability to elevate the organisation's HR function overall. This role involves overseeing, identifying, and improving all People & Culture aspects of the business, aligning with the company culture and growth initiatives.

The role also focusses on managing employee relations, ensuring compliance with employment laws, and handling grievances and disciplinary processes. This also includes promoting diversity and inclusion, developing health, safety, and wellbeing programs, and collaborating with management on safety protocols. Driving employee engagement through effective communication, feedback, and recognition programs is a key aspect.

Additionally, the role emphasises fostering a high-performance culture by working with the CEO and leadership team to define engagement survey objectives, analyse results, and create actionable insights. Monitoring key HR metrics, developing initiatives to foster a positive and inclusive culture, and embedding a mindset of continuous improvement and accountability are essential. The role also includes managing the annual performance review process and using feedback to inform talent development and succession planning.

Finally, this position is responsible for the development and implementation of recruitment strategies to manage the hiring process. The successful candidate will work with both permanent and casual workforces and have the potential to manage a direct report in the future, allowing them to focus on strategic initiatives.

What you'll need to succeed

The ideal candidate is a sound HR professional who can lead the People & Culture function, thrives on collaboration, and balances both commercial and HR mindsets when making decisions. They understand the impact of their work on a private sector, nationwide business and are ready to elevate the HR function to the next level.

You will hold a qualification in Human Resources Management or a related field, with proven experience working in a HR Management level position. You will also have a strong understanding of Australian employment law, the Fair Work Act, and industrial relations frameworks is essential, along with sound knowledge of contemporary HR management principles and emerging technologies.

The right candidate will be able to demonstrate proven success in talent acquisition and development, manage complex employee relations issues professionally, foster a positive work culture, and be proficient in HRIS systems (Employment Hero desirable) and the Microsoft Office Suite.

The role also requires quarterly travel for 1-2 days to meet with the Executives and Senior Leadership Team, as it is part of the Executive team.
