WHS Business Partner, perm role based in Sydney CBD

This organisation is a large, multi‑site healthcare and services provider with a national footprint and a diverse operational environment. Due to continued growth and organisational transformation, an exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Safety Business Partner to join the HR team and play a key role in the uplift of WHS capability across approximately 250 sites.
This is a newly created position, offering the chance to build and influence safety frameworks within a complex, fast‑paced organisation. The role will work closely with HR, operational leaders, external safety partners and subject-matter experts. A hybrid work model is offered following a settling-in period of 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home.

Your new role

As the Safety Business Partner, you will partner with clinical and non‑clinical leaders to drive a proactive, risk‑based safety culture. You will provide hands‑on safety advice, support compliance, and help uplift WHS capability across a varied healthcare environment.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Integrate safety into operational planning and decision-making.
  • Provide insights and recommendations using safety data and trends.
  • Support compliance with WHS legislation and industry standards.
  • Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments and workplace inspections.
  • Assist with audits, assurance activities and responses to regulatory notices.
  • Promote early incident reporting and support the investigation process.
  • Lead or assist with investigations of injuries, near misses and high‑potential events.
  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented and monitored
  • Review incident and ergonomic reports and identify risk trends.
  • Assist leaders in managing psychosocial hazards including fatigue, workload, trauma exposure and occupational violence.
  • Contribute to wellbeing, resilience and mental health initiatives. Prepare safety reports for leadership forums and committees.
  • Maintain policies, procedures and frameworks.
  • Support accreditation, audit processes and WHS reporting requirements.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Tertiary qualifications in WHS, Occupational Health, Risk Management or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in a WHS advisory or safety partnering role.
  • Strong understanding of WHS legislation and risk management principles.
  • Experience leading or supporting incident investigations.
  • Strong communication, coaching and stakeholder management skills.
  • Desirable
  • Experience in healthcare, clinical, laboratory or multi‑site environments.
  • ICAM or equivalent investigation training.
  • Return-to‑Work certification (or willingness to obtain).
